For an inn that just celebrated its grand opening in January, The Nordic Pineapple Bed and Breakfast is quickly becoming known in the heart of Michigan as a romantic getaway destination and a place to hold events for small groups.
The inn’s location 30 minutes north of Lansing and proximity to US-127 make it a great stopping place for people traveling north or south in the middle of the mitt. The restoration of the historic mansion is stunning. Ask innkeepers Kjersten and Greg Offenbecker for a tour and to share a bit of the home’s history.
The Nordic Pineapple is not the only lodging option in St. Johns, but it is the only B&B and the only place that provides breakfast as part of your stay. All rooms, some with king beds, have private baths and jetted tubs. Four of them also have separate showers. The Purple Viking room can accommodate your well-behaved dog; the room also has a daybed with trundle, ideal for a couple kids over two years old traveling with parents. St. Johns has a quaint downtown with great shopping options and is the home of Oh MI Organics, maker of an all-natural organic chocolate that innkeeper Kjersten says “will blow your mind with how awesome it is.”
Unique local events bring people to St. Johns in the warmer months.
Capitalizing on a prominent local crop and its status as Mint City USA, St. Johns puts on a Mint Festival each August. In 2019, Mint Festival is the August 9-11 weekend. The parade will pass directly in front of The Nordic Pineapple. The festival also includes concerts in the park, food trucks, and a great craft fair.
The Nordic Pineapple is a sponsor of the the third annual Eat Healthy, Eat Local festival (May 11), featuring made-in-Michigan products and services.
In June, St. Johns will host the only Soapbox Derby in Michigan in 2019.
Travelers to St. Johns often visit Uncle Johns Cider Mill, only 10 minutes from the inn. Uncle Johns not only offers amazing cider in season but also many family-friendly activities throughout the year.
Ask the innkeepers about their Romantic Getaway Package, which includes a dozen roses, six chocolate-covered strawberries and two champagne flutes to take home, all for a modest price added to your room price. With its spacious common areas, this B&B is also ideal for a girlfriends getaway. One promotion offered periodically: Rent three rooms and get a fourth half price; rent four rooms and get the fifth free.
Just north of St Johns and 10 minutes from the inn, golfers seek out The Emerald Golf Course, billed as “The Gem of the Midwest.” It is a great place to spend an afternoon.
The up-and-coming food scene in St. Johns includes places like Oh MI Organics and Crave Grill at The Emerald. Hopes are high that a microbrewery will be coming to St. Johns soon. Meanwhile, craft beer aficionados satisfy their thirst at Looking Glass Brewery in Dewitt, just a 10-minute drive west.
The Nordic Pineapple already held its first Murder Mystery Weekend and plans another one this October. “These weekends are jam-packed full of fun, intrigue and all-around fun.” says Kjersten, who invites you to call her at 989-292-4178 to get on a list of people who want to be notified.
Kjersten enjoys helping to plan small, intimate events at The Nordic Pineapple, including showers, rehearsal dinners, and birthday parties. They also would love to host small weddings. The inn offers a beautiful and centrally located mid-Michigan spot for family and friends to gather.
