It almost never happens, but here’s the policy

While it is extremely rare for a membership to be terminated*, these four actions are each considered just cause:

Failure to Pass Quality Assurance Review

Membership termination of a B&B that fails to meet the requirements of a Quality Assurance Review, as stated on the review document, is immediate and requires no action by the Board of Directors.

Failure to Pay Dues

Membership termination of a B&B that falls three months behind on dues payment is immediate and requires no action by the Board of Directors. Upon termination notification, a member has 30 days to bring payment current without paying the new-member application fee.

Failure to Remit Room-Night Assessments

Membership termination of a B&B that remits room-night assessments but falls three months behind in reports and/or remittances is immediate and requires no action by the Board of Directors. Upon termination notification, a member has 30 days to bring payment current without paying the new-member application fee.

Violation of Ethical Standards

Membership termination of a B&B that willfully inflicts harm or hardship upon fellow member inns, the association or the industry in general is subject to review and action by the Board of Directors. Ethical standards are described in the bylaws of the association, Section III, paragraph A, item D.

*Definition of Membership Termination – A terminated member will have its MBBA web page immediately deactivated. Any gift certificates remitted by that terminated member for redemption will be held in escrow toward the monies owed until the member brings its account(s) current. All benefits will be null and void. Dues previously remitted for the term of membership are nonrefundable.
