Historical significance weaves through the Villa’s story, with luminaries like Edward Butler, James Fenimore Cooper, and William D. Boyce leaving their mark. This beautiful and elegant Italian Villa was built from 1858-1861 by Edward Butler who was a merchant and banker. The land was previously owned by James Fenimore Cooper who was an American writer of the first half of the 19th century. W.D. Boyce purchased the home and sixty acres as a summer home in 1894. He was a Chicago publisher and founder of the Boy Scouts of America.
