Unique experiences at Candlelite Inn B&B

Lighthouses

Candlelite Inn Bed and Breakfast is less than a mile from the Ludington North Breakwater Light at the end of the pier. Guests can enjoy strolling
and snapping beautiful photos of the harbor and of the SS Badger steaming into port.

Big Sable Point Lighthouse, located within Ludington State Park, is about six miles away by car or bike. Ask us for a complimentary pass to climb to the top in season. Little Sable Point Lighthouse and White River Light Station & Museum are within a 45-minute drive.

Craft Beer

Jamesport Brewing Company is within walking distance (or a quick little drive) from Candlelite Inn, and has been a guest favorite for years. Besides a full menu for lunch and dinner, beers are brewed on site, plus there is a full-service bar, plenty of wine selections, and an assortment of domestic beers. Ludington Bay Brewing is also nearby. The Mitten Bar is another favorite spot, featuring Michigan craft beers, Detroit's Faygo sodas, good food, and plenty of live music.

Wine Trail

Love Wines of Ludington has quickly become a year-round favorite stop with our guests, and it is also less than a mile from Candlelite Inn Bed & Breakfast.  Ask your innkeeper about the availability of coupons for $2 off your first bottle of wine. Come for a tasting in this boutique winery filled with handcrafted wine from our Lake Michigan shoreline.

Douglas Valley Winery in Manistee, about 30 minutes north, is a vineyard community and tasting house, offering both hard ciders and wines. Jomagrha Vineyards and Winery is 20 minutes south in nearby Pentwater. Fox Barn Market and Winery in Shelby and Oceana Winery & Vineyard in New Era are located within a few minutes of each other, making for a thoroughly enjoyable trek.

Waterways

At the end of Ludington Avenue, about seven-tenth mile away from Candlelite Inn, is Stern's Park & Beach. USA Today labeled Stern's Park one of the 51 Great American Beaches. With 2,500 feet of pure sandy beach on Lake Michigan, it is a gem.

Waterfront Sculpture Park is another fantastic park, where guests enjoy a stroll, hand in hand, checking out the unique sculptures, marina, and SS Badger Car Ferry when in port, or watching it turn and dock. Ludington State Park features breathtaking beaches on two lakes, the river, dam and Big Sable Lighthouse, approximately six miles away. I call Buttersville Beach our secret beach.  Often our guests will be pretty much the only ones there enjoying its beauty.

Historic Charm

Steeped in history from Father Jacques Marquette to the lumber barons, Ludington offers something to interest everyone. Self-guided tours include the Mason County Sculpture Trail, Agricultural Trail, Barn Quilt Trail, Murals, and the Lumber Heritage Trail. A number of our guests visit White Pine Village, featuring 30 historic buildings set within 13 acres overlooking Lake Michigan, with special events in summer. The newest history attraction in town is the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum, housed in the former U.S. Coast Guard Station, now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Adventure

Our guests at the Candlelite Inn tend to be a pretty active bunch. Whether you enjoy swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, golf, disc golf, fishing, charter fishing, nature watching, or just plain taking in the beauty and serenity of the water, waves and sand, not to mention amazing sunsets, you will find it here in Ludington. We encourage our guests to bring their bikes, boats and other water toys. We can always make room in the garage for your bikes.

Romance

Our Romantic Retreat Suite is an ideal choice for couples who are celebrating. Whether you are celebrating an anniversary, honeymoon trip, or just escaping for some special time together, you’ll enjoy the little touches. Around the jetted tub for two are spa pillows, aromatherapy by inSPAration, and candles for you to light.

The Victorian Room is also frequently requested. A number of romance packages can be added on, from engraved wine or champagne glasses to roses. A variety of complimentary sweet treats, evening desserts and ice creams are always available.

Autumn

Fall is such a lovely time to take in the spectacular colors and the beauty of nature in Ludington. Enjoy a self-guided Barns & Byways Tour, grab one of the color tour maps, and take innkeeper Melanie's favorite drive to Ludington State Park. Two local markets, along with Ludington's Friday afternoon farm market, offer up plenty of crisp apples and local items, including jams, honey and maple syrup.

Winter Fun

Candlelite Inn Bed and Breakfast is open year round for snuggles, cuddles, hiking, cross-country skiing and to experience the winter beauty of Lake Michigan. Sign up in advance for snow shoe-making classes at Ludington State Park.

Anytime is the perfect time to enjoy a little break and each other.

Our B&B is beautifully decorated for the holidays, with complimentary appetizers on New Year's Eve and Ludington’s lighted ball drop at midnight, just seven blocks away. Plenty of games, puzzles, magazines, playing cards, premium movie channels, movie collection plus DVD players in each room make for enjoyable ways to relax, unwind and celebrate life. Delicious desserts, ice cream, an assortment of flavored hot cocoas, coffees, teas and munchies await.
