Those who appreciate old-world craftsmanship will be amazed at the wood features throughout the inn and the geometric placement of windows providing natural light to permeate throughout the inn.

Unique Experiences at the Baxter House Bed and Breakfast

Cool City

Kerrytown Village is just a short walk from the inn and is known for its eclectic shops, art galleries, theatres, and restaurants. Some favorites include the Farmers Market and the walking trail along the river.

Named after County Kerry, Ireland, Kerrytown was part of the original village of Ann Arbor. Converted into markets and shops in the late 1960s, these historically old buildings have been meticulously maintained to preserve the timeless appeal of their brick and exposed beams.

Not to be missed is Zingermans Grocery/Deli. The original store has grown to encompass a cafe and bakery next door. Here you will find fresh flowers, freshly baked European-style bread, pasta from around the globe, and artisan olives, sausages, deli meats, and cheeses.

Culture

Ann Arbor is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene. The city is home to a variety of galleries, and museums, as well as theatrical and musical organizations that put on a wide range of excitingly unique performances. The University of Michigan is a hub for creativity and innovation, including varied art galleries and collections, performances and events, installations and exhibitions, and so much more

Getting to and around Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor’s downtown,  including the University of Michigan’s campus, is all very walkable.  For those looking for a ride, the local Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority is an easy and well-maintained public transportation system with over 1,300 fixed bus stops. The fare is only $1.50 and exact change is needed.  Zipcar is located all around Ann Arbor where you can reserve a car by the hour or day. You do need to become a member beforehand. See Zipcar map for location.  Arbor is only 25 minutes from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), so there are many affordable and hassle-free options for transportation between Ann Arbor and DTW. We love to recommend the Amtrack, which arrives in Ann Arbor at the train station and is only a short 4-minute walk from the Baxter House Bed and Breakfast. The smaller Ann Arbor Airport is also a short 4-mile drive from the inn.
