Nautical Yarn and the Ludington B&B Association host 3rd Annual Knitter’s Weekend
CALLING ALL KNITTERS!
Ludington Bed and Breakfast Association and Nautical Yarn have created a relaxing weekend getaway November 5 through 7, that combines knitting, great food and fun times with friends! The talented team at Nautical Yarn will be teaching a class on the stylish “Simple Swoncho” from MDK Field Guide # 18: Beginnings.
On Friday Night, Nautical Yarn will host a brief fitting class with a light dinner. The Simple Swoncho is a garment that is flattering to all shapes and sizes of people. It can be knit out of wool or blends for a warm winter garment or out of cotton or linen for a cool summer cover-up. It doesn’t require a lot of fitting, but we will cover the basics of garment fitting. You will also knot and block a swatch to be measured Saturday morning to help you with your unique design of your Simple Swoncho.
Saturday morning, we will continue to cover the skills required for the Simple Swoncho including Cast On Methods, Increase Methods and Cable Stitches.
After lunch on Saturday, we will cover how to cable without a cable needle and continue to work on your design. Following Saturday evening dinner (on your own), a knitting party will be held at one of the bed & breakfast inns in Ludington. Everyone is invited to knit with friends and enjoy refreshments.
Sunday morning, we will learn how to finish and block the finished garment.
WHERE: All classes will take placed at Nautical Yarn located at 108 S Rath Avenue in downtown Ludington.
SKILLS: Everyone should know how to cast on, knit, and purl. Additional skills required include yo, M1L and M1R and cable stitches (we can teach these during class).
SUPPLIES: The Simple Swoncho takes 1200–1800 yds. of worsted weight yarn. A kit is available (but not required) utilizing Michigan’s own Shepherd’s Wool. Cost of the kit is between $72 –$108 depending on garment size. Also, size 6 and 7 or 8 needles are required, but we suggest you bring sizes 7 through 9 circular needles in 32” to 40” length and size 6 in 16” length.
COST for the weekend is a two-night stay reserved at one of the participating B&Bs and $150 for the class instruction, Friday supper, Saturday lunch, and gifts. Yarn kits may be purchased beginning at $72.
For questions or more information about the project, call Nautical Yarn, (231)845-9868. Contact one of these inns to book your two-night stay.
