”You don’t have to go to the lake or the bridge to enjoy a getaway in Michigan,” says innkeeper Mike Venturini of Munro House Bed and Breakfast and Spa in Jonesville. Draw a line south to north through Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, and you’ll find Munro House in Southern Michigan. It’s nicely situated at the crossroads of US-12 and M-99, about 17 miles west of US-127, a major north-south route.
“A lot of people go to waterfront locations, especially in summer, to get away from the rat race at home, but they find themselves in another crowded rat race at the lake or the bridge,” says Mike, who operates the inn with his wife Lori. “We offer a relaxing alternative getaway with no rat race.”
Most guests choose Munro House to spend time with each other and relax, Mike says. However, a lot of people stay there while visiting nearby Hillsdale College or Spring Arbor University. Many others visit Allen, less than 10 minutes away. The town bills itself as “the antique capital of the world,” and regardless of whether such a claim can be substantiated, you could spend a full two days hunting antiques there and not see everything.
Munro House’s seven guest rooms offer comfortable lodging with upscale amenities and a big breakfast.
Walk from Munro House to eateries, craft beer, live theater
Considering its rural surroundings, the Jonesville area is rich with some highly rated restaurants. Munro House takes advantage of this asset in various packages that include meals at restaurants like Olivia’s Chop House, Saucy Dog’s BBQ, Johnny T’s Bistro, Rosalie’s Roadhouse, and The Hunt Club. The ability to walk to dinner is an experience a lot of guests appreciate on a getaway. Two of these restaurants are an easy two-block stroll from Munro House.
On-site therapeutic massage is available seven days a week — by appointment. The inn’s massage therapists really know what they’re doing, judging from guest comments such as “I’ve enjoyed massage in locations all around the world, but the best one was in Jonesville” and “your masseuse is a goddess.”
Craft beer aficionados enjoy Hillsdale’s Here’s to You Pub & Grub and the Hillsdale Brewing Company and will soon have a new place to try in downtown Jonesville, The Ramshackle Brewery.
Live theater at The Sauk in downtown Jonesville brings culture to this small town. An uncommonly diverse group of thespians have brought great plays to Jonesville, including ‘Les Miserables,” “Grease,” “Excanaba in da Moonlight,” and “Little Shop of Horrors.” This summer features blockbusters “Beauty and the Beast” and “Mamma Mia!”
Dinner and theater packages are always available at Munro House. The restaurant and the theater are less than two blocks from Munro House.
