The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast
As presented by Innkeepers/Owners Phillip and Marci Palajac
Located in Ellsworth, heart of the Grand Traverse region
Atmosphere and ambience of The House on the Hill: Warm, inviting, a combination of comfort and elegance, a place of natural beauty. The House on the Hill is nestled between beautiful harbor towns on 53 acres of woods, hiking trails, meadows and lakefront. Our Carriage House guests enjoy the babbling brook right outside their windows.
Our biggest event: The 4th of July is pure Americana in Ellsworth. The fireworks are launched right off our beach. Guests of The House on the Hill have exclusive seats on our wraparound porch. Community residents come sit on our lawn to watch. An authentic New York hot dog cart sells “Red Hots.” As dusk approaches, boats on the lake dress up in lights for the annual boat parade. We have a special singer to lead “The Star Spangled Banner,” which always gives goosebumps. The fireworks show never disappoints and can rival the display in any larger town.
Other highlights: Fall color season, of course. Charlevoix has its Apple Festival (Oct. 12-14 this year) with arts, crafts, food vendors and music at the harbor on Round Lake. In the winter, we have snowshoe, cross-country and snowmobile trails. We will even provide the snowshoes. In the spring, guests hunt for morel mushrooms in our woods. The nationally known Rowe Inn Restaurant across the street will prepare them for you.
Breakfast: We strive to serve gourmet, three-course breakfasts that people never make at home. The first course is fruit-based; for example, Fresh Berries in Champagne Cream. The second course consists of homemade breads and butters. The third course is either a sweet or savory dish that will make your mouth water!
Extras at The House on the Hill: Our 53 acres of beautiful wooded countryside and lakefront offer a nature lover’s paradise. We help guests enjoy it by providing recreational amenities such as kayaks, a canoe, and snowshoes. Fireplaces and air conditioning make rooms comfortable in every season.
Our approach to innkeeping: We love creating a respite for people. Knowing firsthand about the pace and rigors of life, we aim to create a rejuvenating and fun experience for all guests that will truly provide a home away from home.
What guests say: When guests write that we are their “home away from home,” those words remind us that we are accomplishing what we have set out to do.
