Minutes from downtown Ludington, nestled in a wooded setting in Hamlin Township, Shining Light Inn Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place for you to relax, to refresh, and to renew your spirit.
Guests tell us we make them feel right at home from the moment they step through our door.
And that’s exactly our goal, whether your stay with us is for business, recreation, or that needed getaway or whether you’re passing through the area on the way to or from the SS Badger ferry linking Ludington with Manitowoc, WI.
Shining Light Inn is a modern craftsman design built in 2014. The natural beauty of our 10 wooded acres is just the beginning of your ideal destination. While close to downtown Ludington shops and restaurants, Lake Michigan, Ludington State Park and so many other points of interest, we are tucked away for a unique experience.

Escape the ordinary
Our four guest rooms, all distinctively decorated, were furnished and decorated with your luxurious comfort in mind.
Each room has a plush, pillow-top queen-size bed (affectionately named by past guests as the “cloud” mattress), posh bedding, premiere linens, LED TVs, and many little extras just waiting for you.
Each room is named after our family members, our grandmas or great-grandmas. The two rooms on the main floor -- Sarah’s Sanctuary and Caroline’s Corner, are spacious, elegant, comfortable.. There is a large bathroom with a full tub that is at times shared by these two rooms.
The remaining two guest rooms are located in the lower level of the home -- Mayme’s Hideaway and Lydia’s Retreat -- are cozy, a little more modern in design, but still with comfort as the priority. These two rooms also share a large, full bathroom with tub.
Amenities? At Shining Light Inn we think of them as necessities. Find freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and a gift bag of our homemade granola as you cozy into your room. Of course, free WIFI is available, along with complimentary coffee, tea, bottled water, and -- oh, don’t forget -- the Chocolate & Candy Buffet, and many other extra treats.
The gathering area in the lower level is the ideal place to read a book, watch a movie, play games, or just sit and chat. Cozy up in front of the fireplace on a chilly day. A small refrigerator and microwave are available. Stroll outside to the backyard oasis, with its gardens, decks, porches, pond and waterfall.
Past guests have commented that as soon as they needed something, they turned around and it was already there. We do try our best to treat every person in an extra-special way.
Breakfast at Shining Light Inn

No one ever goes away hungry from our table, and we will even send you away with a snack for later, if you like. We do feature locally grown produce and goods when possible.

Are you a lighthouse enthusiast? What’s not to like? They have great stories to tell… history, culture, mystery, beauty, and so much more. See five lighthouses within an hour of Shining Light Inn. Big Sable Point and the North Breakwater Light are located right here in Ludington. Put these lighthouses on your Michigan coastline tour.
Being a coastal town, Ludington is the perfect place to find adventure on or near the water. Try kayaking, canoeing, or tubing on Hamlin Lake, Big Sable River or Pere Marquette River. Fishing is also a great pastime. Fish off the North Breakwater, by the dam at Ludington State Park, or choose from many Lake Michigan fishing charters. Relax on the beaches at Stearn’s Park, Ludington State Park, or Hamlin Lake Beach. There are rentals available for most watersports. And the ultimate waterway experience is to sail on the SS Badger Car Ferry, a Michigan Historical Landmark.
Take in all the natural beauty the Ludington area has to offer. At the inn, the rustic trails on our ten acres of rustic trails can be perfect for tranquil walks or photo ops, with deer, turkeys, many species of birds, and the gorgeous vegetation. Just two miles away is the gateway to white sand dunes overlooking Lake Michigan on the winding road to Ludington State Park. The state park is one of Michigan’s premiere parks. Hike and explore miles and miles of trails, all in such a gorgeous setting.
We are “foodies”! We love food… good food! So, your breakfast experience at the inn will not disappoint. At the breakfast table the only “complaint” we hear is that people wish they had room to eat more. The inn has its own small garden, where we grow produce to use in some of our breakfast favorites.
House of Flavors is well known for delicious ice cream, producing over 25 million gallons a year, but make sure to take the time to go in and sit down for a meal. You will experience a fun place with great waitstaff and incredible food. They are a family-owned business for over 69 years.
Ludington is getting more attention in the brewery arena, but Jamesport Brewing Company is one of our favorites for consistently good food and service and a great atmosphere.
You don’t want to miss the farm markets in the area. Pick your own blueberries just down the road from the Inn at Couturier Blueberry Farm. Apple picking is a fun and tasty fall activity too.
Let your fall color tour begin at Shining Light Inn We have many mature hardwood trees, which make for a picturesque autumnal palette. After a hearty breakfast, you might choose to head north to catch M-22, one of the best-known scenic Michigan highways. We might have a secret color destination to share with you too, so don’t forget to ask us.
Of course you know Ludington is a great coastal town in the summer, but as the temperature drops and the snow starts to fly, the crystal-clear beauty of the winter season is where your adventure begins. With Ludington State Park only two miles away, you can go on a snowshoeing excursion or glide along cross-country skiing for the afternoon. The park also hosts lantern-lit evening hours for these winter sports.
If downhill skiing is your thing, there are two ski resorts within an hour drive from the Inn, Caberfae Peaks and Crystal Mountain.
Then, make your way back to the inn to cozy-up in front of the fireplace and relax with hot cocoa and some homemade goodies.
