Whitehall

Whitehall is in Southwest Michigan’s Muskegon County, minutes from the coast of Lake Michigan. Visit Whitehall bed and breakfasts to escape the hustle and bustle of Grand Rapids, just an hour away. Travel here to golf at Bent Pine Golf Club or Hickory Knoll Golf Course. Come to relax and unwind.

This is the heart of the Michigan Shore Wine Trail, for there are dozens of Michigan wineries to the north and to the south. A wine tour is a delightful way to craft a vacation at a Whitehall bed and breakfast; before heading out to tour wineries and taste wine, ask the innkeepers about their favorite local wines and vineyards.

One of the most splendid Michigan Lighthouses is on the boardwalk at Whitehall – the White River Lighthouse. It was built in 1875, and now serves as a museum and is open to the public. Climb the spiral staircase to the top of the tower for the view, and pour over the vast collection of nautical artifacts down below at the museum. Several other Michigan lighthouses are nearby – ask bed and breakfast innkeepers which they prefer.

Biking and cross-country skiing are popular activities here, and there are three trails near Whitehall bed and breakfasts wonderfully suited to both: The City of Muskegon Lakeshore Trail, the Musketawa Trail, and the Hart-Montague Trail State Park, which reaches Whitehall. These trails pass through farmland, forests, prairies, and lakes, and the scenery is beautiful any time of year. Snowmobiling and horseback riding is allowed on some trails, as well.

Whitehall sits at the eastern end of White Lake, which provides boating access to Lake Michigan through the White Lake Channel. Float on the lake in a canoe, or cruise out to Lake Michigan for a day of fishing. Lounge on one of the nearby beaches in the summer, or bundle up and walk along the shore in the winter. Or simply enjoy relaxing at your Whitehall bed and breakfast with a good book.
