Three Rivers

Three Rivers is in Southwest Michigan, 30 minutes south of Kalamazoo and an hour north of South Bend Indiana. Many of the historic Victoria buildings in the downtown core have been lovingly maintained and restored throughout the years, with the result that much of this charming, progressive town is listed on the National Historic Register. Escape to a Three Rivers bed and breakfast when in need of a quiet weekend surrounded by beauty.

Three Rivers sits at the confluence of the St. Joseph River, the Rocky River, and the Portage River – thus its name. Each June the town puts on the Three Rivers Water Festival, paying homage to the powerful rivers that have shaped it over the years. When there isn’t a festival, guests of our bed and breakfasts enjoy browsing the shops and galleries of the historic downtown and trying out the many good restaurants.

The heart of the Three Rivers vibrant arts community is the Carnage Center for the Arts. Once a Carnage Library, today this lovely Romanesque building houses the WAR. Monroe Museum and is a venue for the Carnage Concert Series. It also provides art and music classes for children and adults in the community.

Another great part of Three Rivers is the Riviera Theatre. This lovely building ran films and various events from 1925 through 2000, when it closed down. Fortunately, new owners restored the Riviera Theatre and reopened it in 2008; since then it has become a cornerstone of the community, bringing in wonderful film series, concerts, and performing arts. Be sure to see what’s going on at the Riviera Theatre when staying at a bed and breakfast.

In the winter, pick up a book at Lowry’s Books and bring it back to the bed and breakfast. Spend some time cross country skiing or snow tubing in Meter Broadway Park, then curl up in front of the fireplace back at the inn, book in hand. Now that’s a good vacation.
