Stevensville

Stevensville is in Southwest Michigan, 45 minutes from South Bend Indiana, about an hour from Kalamazoo, and less than two hours from Chicago, Illinois. In other words, it is an ideal destination for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation at a Stevensville bed and breakfast. The southwest coast of Lake Michigan is dotted with small charming towns and long stretches of sandy white beaches.

Stevensville is in the heart of the Southwest Michigan Shore Wine Trail, meaning there is a good dozen Michigan wineries within a short drive from any bed and breakfast. Tour the wineries alone, or consider taking a tour to several Michigan Shore wineries – that way tasting and driving won’t mix.

There are many festivals in this corner of Southwest Michigan. The Blossomtime Festival in Benton Harbor involves 25 communities and is the oldest festival in the state. Be sure to eat a good breakfast at the bed and breakfast before heading over to watch the two-hour-long parade. The Coloma Glad-Peach Festival in early August fills the streets of Coloma with arts, crafts, parades, and a carnival. Don’t leave without trying some fresh, tasty peach treats. The Venetian Festival in St. Joseph is the largest community celebration in southwest Michigan. Live music fills three stages, sand sculptures amaze crowds, and fireworks fill the sky. This one is not to be missed.

Folks who enjoy getting out on the water will find many opportunities to do so in and around Stevensville. Rent a boat in St. Joseph and float down the St. Joseph River or out onto Lake Michigan. Bring a fishing pole for fun, or leave it behind and just relax. Harbor Isle Marina is in the middle of the St. Joseph River and a short walk from St. Joseph’s quaint downtown. This is a good place to find charter fishing or scenic cruises. It is also a good place to find moorage if traveling by boat, for it’s a short hop down to a Stevensville bed and breakfast.
