Brighton

Brighton, in Southeast Michigan, is 30 minutes north of Ann Arbor and about 45 minutes west of Detroit. It has a thriving community with art galleries, numerous shops, and a wide variety of dining options. The surrounding area boasts rich farmland and several recreation areas with excellent skiing, hiking, and fishing. Make any of our bed and breakfasts a favorite destination for weekend getaways.

Brighton State Recreation Area, Island Lake State Recreation Area, and Proud Lake State Recreation encircle Brighton. Just beyond, Pinckney and Waterloo State Recreation Areas offer more opportunities to get outside. It is easy to be outside here, enjoying colorful hikes in the fall, skiing in the winter, and swimming in the summer.

In winter, head to Mount Brighton Ski Area, just minutes out of town. Cross-country skiers and snowmobilers will be pleased with miles of trails through various recreation areas. Lakelands Trail State Park has a thirteen-mile stretch of trail along an abandoned railroad that is ideal for cross-country skiing.

Once the snow melts, head outside again. Huron Meadows Metropark is a fantastic facility with a par-72 public golf course, shore fishing, nature trails and even rowboat rentals. Island Lake Recreation Area has two swimming beaches, nearly twenty miles of trails for hiking and biking, and excellent fishing. Horseback riding is popular along the Lakelands Trail. Country roads are fantastic for cycling – head off in search of farm stands and fresh produce. Ask any innkeepers about their favorite local Michigan wines and travel the Wine Trail of Southeast Michigan to those wineries.

Back in town, sit peacefully by the Mill Pond or stroll the riverside boardwalk. Bed and breakfast innkeepers may be able to recommend excellent local restaurants. Relax and enjoy.
