February is for lovers! Here at Prairieside Suites Luxury Bed and Breakfast Inn, we love Grand Rapids in the winter.  Here, there’s nothing but fun to be had — from outdoor recreation to indoor cultural experiences.

Cannonsburg Ski Area Grand Rapids MichiganWe’ve got snow and lot’s of it!  That’s a good thing as one of our classic winter activites is skiing. Just a half-hour to our north, Cannonsburg Ski Area also offers snowboarding and tubing as well as a lodge and full ski shop. On Sundays after 5pm, lift tickets and equipment rental are just $20! That’s an awesome deal for the seasoned skier or for someone trying it for the first time!  ($10 per person for a 3-hour session.  Monday – Friday, 4P – 10P; Saturday & Sunday, Noon-10p)

You can see two permanent Chihuly works of art on display at Frederick Meijer Gardens, Grand Rapid’s internationally acclaimed botanical garden and sculpture park.  Dale Chihuly, the most sought-after artist in the world working primarily in glass, created a dazzling ceiling sculpture for its Taste of the Gardens Café.

Chihuly Glass Sculpture
Lena's Garden

Aptly named Lena’s Garden in honor of the benefactress, Lena Meijer, the sculpture is comprised of dozens of individually-blown glass pieces that span the ceiling in a spectrum of colors from cool greens and cobalt blues to brilliant oranges, yellows and reds. Just outside the cafe, a beautiful Chihuly chandelier hangs from the ceiling where natural daylight dances through the glass.

As I stand gazing at these magnificent pieces, I imagine how nerve wracking it would be to install one of these fragile works of art. What if I dropped it?

Guests who stay with us at Prairieside Suites often talk over breakfast about how much they enjoyed their afternoon skiing at Cannonsburg or their visit to ” The Gardens.”  So on your next visit to Grand Rapids, discover one or the other — or both!  When your feet are sore, c’mon home to our bed and breakfast for a relaxing soak in one of our over-sized jacuzzi tubs for two! Even if skiing or sculpture aren’t your things, Grand Rapids has plenty to offer — including sporting events, night clubs and excellent, locally-owned restaurants and brew pubs.

Now that you’re intrigued and see what great things our nearby city has to offer, go to our website to discover our current specials, preview our beautiful spa rooms and plan your next romantic get away. Keep in mind that Prairieside Suites Luxury B&B is a member of the Michigan lake to Lake Bed and Breakfast Association. We’re proud that our inn, along with just 130 others across the state, consistently meets the high levels of quality, safety, cleanliness, professionalism and comfort required to join the association and to stay a member.
