| The isthmus between Round Lake and Lake Michigan is home to the lovely town of Charlevoix, Michigan. Pierre Francois Xavier de Charlevoix was a priest who was sent to America by the French in 1720. His personal mission was to seek passage to the Pacific, while his official task was to inspect the local missions. Our town was named for this priest, as he visited the area during that time. Fifteen miles south of Charlevoix you will find Eastport, and also nearby is Ellsworth, offering antiquing, scenic drives, and small-town charm. Moonrises over Round Lake and sunsets over Lake Michigan—one would be hard pressed to find anything more beautiful. Spend the day fishing and boating on the lakes. Several charters are available for sailing or fishing—instruction is also offered. Ready for a quieter day? Spend the afternoon relaxing at the Charlevoix Area Community Pool, and then dine in style with a fabulous meal at one of our restaurants here in town. Theater, movies, museums, golfing, shuttle tours—come experience it all! How about some special sights? The Charlevoix Memorial Bridge opens on the hour and the half hour during the summer, so that huge freighters and pleasure boats alike may leave the port. |
