| In 1820, Elisha Congdon named the community of Chelsea, Michigan, after his home of Chelsea, Massachusetts. He was accompanied by Cyrus Beckwith and James Congdon when he settled here. In 1850 came the Michigan Central Railroad, and Chelsea was formally recognized along the way. The village is located in Washtenaw County in the Ann Arbor metro area, and the town of Waterloo is right next door.
