Hastings
Hastings , Michigan, is the county seat of Barry County. A landowner by the name of Eurotas P. Hastings was the inspiration for the name of this town, located on the Thornapple River. Formation of the town actually started happening when Mr. Hastings sold 480 acres, for $3000, to three men by the names of Kendall, Dibble, and Kingsbury, who took the steps to begin early development. Hasting was something of a hub in the early days, as the Grand Rapids and Battle Creek stagecoach routes met and crossed here. The Thornapple Lake provides swimming and boating for residents and visitors. For a bit more adventure, there is canoeing on the Thornapple River. For an experience that is both educational and entertaining, a re-enactment of the Civil War battles, held here at Hastings, is an excellent choice for spending an afternoon. The Gilmore Car Museum is located only 20 miles from Hastings. There are many auto shows held there each year, and the museum has been listed as a Top 10 car museum. How about some real action—Skydive Hastings is ready to provide the thrill of a lifetime. For some more subdued entertainment, there’s the golfing, hiking, beaches, and lovely dinner cruises to make your day complete.
